Lethbridge Wines
Lethbridge Wines
Lethbridge Wines was founded by three scientists, Ray Nadeson, Maree Collis and Adrian Thomas who recognised the importance of terroir (soil, climate, aspect and bio-diversity) in the production of distinctive wines.
The fruit used to produce the range of Lethbridge Wines comes from the Estate Vineyard in Lethbridge, originally planted in 1874 by Swiss immigrants (replanted by the current owners in 1996), and from another historic vineyard site in Mt Duneed, an area first planted in 1858, and the first vineyard to be replanted as the Geelong region re-emerged in 1970.
The wines are produced on site in a unique load bearing strawbale winery designed for its ability to recreate the controlled environment of cellars and caves that have always played an important part in the maturation of great wines. This innovative building marries the owners’ commitment to biodynamic farming, environmental sustainability and production of fine wine.
An outstanding winery and one of the best of the Geelong region. “Understanding the importance of terroir ……. all part and parcel of the highly successful Lethbridge approach.” James Halliday, 2010 Australian Wine Companion.
Ray Nadeson of Lethbridge Wines is regarded as one of the Stars of the Australian Wine Industry in 2008 in WBM Australia’s Wine Business Magazine Dec 2008/Jan 2009
