Curlewis Winery is an iconic boutique vineyard and winery situated in the heart of the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula. It has been making highly rated cool climate wines for the past 22 years.
The main vineyard of MV6 Pinot Noir vines was planted in 1985 and are amongst the oldest Pinot Noir vines in the region. The soil is one metre of black cracking clay over thirty metres of limestone-marl which gives richness, depth of colour plus minerality to our Pinots.
A further three acres of Pommard vines were planted in 2005. The Pommard, known for its tannin qualities, was first introduced in the 2012 vintage and provides further complexity and tannin structure to our Pinots.
The vines rarely produce more than 1.5 tons per acre. The result is premium fruit of low yields which produce complex, well balanced, and sophisticated wines.
Curlewis Winery is an artisan, family owned and run winery. The wines are hand-made and low intervention. We absorb the French wine-making styles of Burgundy and Rhone in particular, but set out to take advantage of our more consistent climate and some of the better new techniques to create wines of greater concentration and flavour ripeness yet still with the full length of palate that goes with ultra-premium wines the world over.
