Shadowfax’s engine room is made up of some highly motivated, talented and dedicated staff members who help make everything run like clockwork

Shadowfax’s wines are created by winemaker Matt Harrop, a New Zealander with great experience in vineyards and winemaking. Matt started working in wineries when he was 17, attending Roseworthy Agricultural College in South Australia.

Established in 1998, Shadowfax is a boutique winery located 30 minutes from Melbourne, in the heart of Werribee Park. Dedicated to creating quality, handcrafted wines that express the characteristics of the vineyards in which they were grown, Shadowfax produces 11,000 cases of premium wines each year. Renowned varieties include Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz as well as a selection of highly limited, single-vineyard wines.

But why Shadowfax? Where does the name come from? In J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic, The Lord of the Rings, Shadowfax was chief among horses. He shone by day and passed unseen at night, and it was considered that Shadowfax would be a fine symbol for the winery. Shadowfax wines are seen wherever fines wines are sipped and enjoyed.
